TheMunicipal Corporation has implemented a significant hike in the registration and renewal fees for pet dogs starting from April 1. The registration fee has been increased from Rs 200 to Rs 1,000, while the renewal fee now stands at Rs 500, up from the previous Rs 100. Moreover, pet owners failing to register their dogs will face a hefty fine of Rs 10,000, doubling the previous penalty amount.
Decision to Increase Fees:
This decision was taken by the municipal corporation in February to escalate the registration fee for pet dogs. With more than 20,000 pet dogs in the city and only about 6,000 registered, the move aims to encourage responsible pet ownership and ensure that all pets are accounted for.
Background and Implications:
Previously, unregistered pet owners were subjected to a fine of Rs 5,000. However, with the increased penalty, the municipal corporation intends to tighten the regulations around pet ownership, promoting the registration of pets for better management and control within the urban area.
The increase in registration and renewal fees, along with the steep fine for non-compliance, signifies the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation’s commitment to regulating pet ownership. This measure is expected to encourage more pet owners to comply with registration requirements, thereby aiding in the effective management of pet dogs within the city.
