Civil Aviation Secretary Vumalunmang Vualnam has stated that separate rules are being formulated for the public and commercial use of drones in India. The government aims to promote equal development of drones in all sectors. Licensing rules for drone pilots are also being simplified. Speaking at a program organized by the industrial organization CII, the Secretary mentioned that work is underway to create regulations for the use of drones.
**Mapping of Entire Aerial Area Completed for Drone Routes**
The mapping of all geographical areas for drone routes has been completed. Only 10% of the area has been designated as red zones, while the remaining 90% has been classified as green zones. Permission from the central government is required to fly drones in red zones, while no permission is needed to fly drones in green zones. Detailed information about drone routes is being provided online, and licensing for drone pilots will be made easier in the future.
**Drone Business in India Estimated to Reach $40 Billion**
Chirag Sharma, the MD of Drone Destination, a company providing drone services and pilot training, has stated that with the tremendous growth in the public use of drones, it is estimated that the drone business in India could reach up to $40 billion by 2030. Of this, $23 billion is expected to be from drone manufacturing and $17 billion from drone services. In the coming years, at least three lakh drone pilots will be needed, along with a large number of technicians for drone maintenance. Apart from agriculture, drone usage is rapidly expanding in sectors such as railways, roads, ports, surveillance, mapping, telecommunications, electricity, and logistics.
